“We are constantly exploring new ways to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. Our investment in renewable energy is an important part of that goal. Our partnership with Bullfrog Power has given us the ability to better manage our own energy while contributing to the expansion of green power generation in Canada.“

David Cheesewright
President and Chief Executive Officer
Wal-Mart Canada

Headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Wal-Mart Canada operates 272 discount stores nationwide and six SAM'S CLUBS in Ontario. The company supports environmental initiatives in Canadian communities, hosting a national Earth Day contest, supporting the environmental education of Canadian youth, and working with a range of partners to improve the quality of the environment in communities nationwide. Since 2004, Wal-Mart Canada has contributed more than $600,000 to Evergreen to fund Wal-Mart's Green Grants program, offering financial support to environmental revitalization projects in communities nationwide. Wal-Mart is actively engaged in the development and advancement of product stewardship programs across the country and seeks to continually reduce the environmental footprint of its operations.

In British Columbia, Wal-Mart Canada's recent investment in green power provides emissions-free power to 25 per cent of its stores provincewide. Wal-Mart has partnered with Bullfrog Power in Ontario and Alberta. In Ontario, Wal-Mart will purchase 39,000 MWhrs of green power over a three-year period, the largest commercial purchase of green power in Ontario's history. In Alberta, Wal-Mart will purchase 31,500 MWh of green power over three years. Over the course of these two agreements, the green power produced by Bullfrog’s generators on behalf of Wal-Mart will reduce greenhouse gas emission by more than 52,000 tonnes.

In Ontario, three Wal-Mart Supercentres are bullfrogpowered: London, Ancaster and Stouffville. In Alberta, two Calgary stores and one Edmonton store are bullfrogpowered.
